Designing a National Treasure

The EstonianNational Museum has taken on the challenge of preserving a tiny nation’sidentity through a myriad of challenges and near-death experiences. Estonianshave dreamt of a monument like that for a hundred years. After overcoming theobstacles, the designers was left with their working tools, the brief and aworld of expectations. Eight years later, the result was a unique museumexperience, well received by the audiences and awarded Gold at The EuropeanDesign Awards.


Janno Siimar is Design lead and partner at theEstonian design agency Velvet. He will share the story about how the permanentexhibition called “Echo Of the Urals” was designed, re-designed and finallybuilt.
