19 days: Designing a beautiful death

In the spring of 2018, Anna Kirah’s mother was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, at the age of 87. The doctors predicted she would only live for a short period of time. Anna’s mum did not want treatment. Instead she wanted to follow her own journey out of this life. A journey she had designed herself.

Design anthropologist Anna Kirah will tell the story about her mother’s last 19 days on this planet, the choices her mum took, which had a profound impact on her own life, her relatives and even the hospice workers before, during and after her death. This is a story about dignity, taboos and respecting a human being’s most fundamental choices: The right to live ones life and death with respect and dignity.
